How SearchLens is built and why it matters

SearchLens is purpose-built for search fund deal triage. It is not a general-purpose AI tool.

Why Not Just Use ChatGPT or Claude?

It is a fair question. Here is an honest answer.

01

No workflow required

Off-the-shelf AI tools require you to know what to ask, how to structure the output, and how to interpret the results. SearchLens eliminates that entirely. Upload your files and get a structured investment summary — no prompting, no formatting, no interpretation required. The workflow is built in.

02

Structured data extraction

When you upload a QuickBooks P&L export or a Form 1120 to a general AI tool, it reads the file as text. SearchLens parses it as structured financial data — extracting line items, normalizing across years, and handling inconsistent formatting automatically. This produces materially more accurate financial analysis than text-based reading.

03

Consistent, repeatable framework

General AI tools produce different output depending on how you prompt them, what version you are using, and how the document is formatted. Every deal that runs through SearchLens is evaluated against the same five-factor framework with the same benchmarks — every time. That consistency makes the output comparable across deals and reliable enough to act on.

04

Purpose-built for search fund deal economics

SearchLens is calibrated to lower middle market search fund benchmarks — EBITDA thresholds, valuation multiples, add-back standards, and margin profiles specific to owner-operated businesses in the $2M–$20M revenue range. A general AI tool has no concept of what makes a deal attractive or unattractive in this market. SearchLens does.

Data Security

Search fund deal flow involves confidential seller financials, non-public company information, and sensitive broker relationships. We take that seriously.

01

Your files stay on your infrastructure

Documents uploaded to SearchLens are stored on Vercel’s SOC 2 Type 2 certified infrastructure. Your raw files never touch a consumer AI platform. When you upload a CIM or a QuickBooks export, it goes to your SearchLens storage — not to OpenAI, not to Anthropic’s consumer platform, not anywhere else.

02

API processing, not consumer AI

When SearchLens analyzes your documents, extracted content is processed via Anthropic’s API. Under API terms, Anthropic does not use inputs for model training and automatically deletes data within 30 days. This is materially different from uploading files directly to Claude.ai or ChatGPT, where consumer data policies apply and protections are weaker.

03

Your deal history is yours

Deal records, company names, financial summaries, and analysis history live in your SearchLens account — in a database you control, separate from any AI provider’s servers. Nothing you analyze on SearchLens becomes part of an AI training dataset.

What We Use to Build SearchLens

SearchLens is built on Next.js and deployed on Vercel. Financial documents are parsed server-side using purpose-built extraction libraries for Excel, PDF, and DOCX formats. Analysis is powered by Anthropic's Claude API. Data is stored in a managed SQLite database with file storage on Vercel Blob. Authentication is handled via NextAuth.
